The client had determined that it was time to move their DBS business unit applications from on‑premises to running on the cloud. Having already distributed determined a target first application for the move, discovery engine, the client determined that they needed an expert partner to help guide them through the migration process, given the current infrastructure environment as well as business imperatives.
The client has been a partner to 90% of the Fortune 500, more than 65% of the best global brands (Interbrand), nearly 10,000 law firms, and more than 3,000 financial organizations since its founding in 1899. Part of its long-lasting success has been an ability to adapt and change with updated advances in law, technology, and the business landscape. Recognizing the clear cost and elasticity advantages that migrating to the cloud would bring, and with direction from the general manager and executive sponsorship of the CTO, the clients’ digital brand services (DBS) business unit is embarking on a multi-year effort to migrate their applications out of corporate data centers and into AWS public cloud. DBS chose an initial datacenter-hosted application – discovery engine – as the first application to migrate, and chose Innova to assist in the assessment, cloud build, and migration effort.
Innova was able to quickly become integrated into the clients’ DBS project team, swiftly getting up to speed on their business requirements and current technology environment. Innova was able to quickly provide value by performing an initial cloud readiness assessment for DBS and by providing a roadmap for migration of their flagship discovery engine application.
Innova and DBS then began the process of moving it to the cloud through the implementation of two major objectives:
Setting up and configuring AWS accounts, services, and resources necessary to allow DBS applications to run inside the cloud while ensuring compliance with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
Migrating the discovery engine application from inside its current production data center into AWS cloud while adhering to AWS best practices.
