The client’s time to market was consistently longer than desired, which impacted experimentation and innovation. Overhead for managing various environments was operationally burdensome mainly due to manual workflows, monitoring and instrumentation tools were antiquated, expensive and left gaps in coverage. Despite migrating to the cloud, the client was concerned about rapidly growing costs.
As part of the preparations for their next phase of development, the client needed to revise its manual workflows, monitoring and instrumentation tools and management mechanisms. The technology team wanted to further leverage the cloud to create a more scalable and lower-cost model while maintaining high- levels of security and availability.
We with our inhouse expertise developed infrastructure as code and configuration management to completely automate the process for all resources (including monitoring integration) and executed the following:
- Developed an automated image creation “factory” to provide always up-to-date operating system images, complete with patches, baseline tools, etc. (providing as well for the creation for immutable images for both the build and deployment pipelines)
- Integrated tooling for consumption analysis, reserved instances and right sizing recommendations
- Implemented NepheleOps™ to enable for comprehensive resource system and performance monitoring
- Managed services (including a focused DevOps team) to manage and develop provisioning, configuration, and incident response automation
- Implemented Innova’s cloud optimization service to continuously identify opportunities for optimization
- Provided value by performing an initial cloud readiness assessment for the client by providing a roadmap for migration of their flagship discovery engine application
