5 New Year’s Resolution Tips

January 25, 2023

by Innova Solutions

As each year begins, people across the globe resolve to be better versions of themselves in the year ahead. Whether they’re healthy habits, learning a new skill, or anything in between, resolutions rule the month of January.
While studies indicate that only 9% of people who set a resolution are successful in their endeavors by the year’s end, there’s still hope! We’ve pulled together five tips to help you stick to your goals in 2023 and beyond.

KEEP IT REAL

Many people enter the new year with a resolution bigger than life itself. Declaring that you will lose weight or stop smoking is a huge endeavor that takes planning, determination, and passion. Resolutions like these will likely fizzle out quickly because of how large they are.
Instead, try to zero in on exactly what you are hoping to achieve. Be as specific and realistic as possible. For instance, if you resolve to focus more in 2023, what exactly do you want to focus on? Do you need to focus more on your family? Selfcare? Work? A project? Clarity, specificity, and achievability are vital for success.

CREATE A PLAN OF ACTION

As the saying goes, a goal without a plan is just a dream! Simply having a resolution is not enough; create a plan of action (POA) to achieve success.
Break down your resolution into a POA by asking yourself probing questions, such as why you are pursuing this resolution. What factors are important to you? How will you get to the finish line? When can you achieve your goal? A POA will not only give you a breakdown of your resolution and how to achieve it but will also make your resolution more meaningful.

DON’T SCRAP IT; MAKE ADJUSTMENTS INSTEAD

More than half of people give up on their resolutions midway through the year. Instead of tossing your resolution out the door, reevaluate and adjust.
Some changes may include modifying your overall objective, while others may be a simple tweak in your monthly POA. To make successful adjustments, determine what isn’t working and scrap that part of your plan. Make the necessary changes to make your goal attainable, and continue on your path forward.

JOT IT DOWN

Forgetting about a new year’s resolution happens to 23% of people who make one, so don’t let that be the case for you. To help you remember your year-end goal, consider journaling.
Journaling doesn’t just improve your chances of remembering your goal but also helps you track your progress as well! Writing down your resolution and keeping it in a conspicuous place serves as a reminder of what you’re aiming for throughout the year.

STAY POSITIVE

Our final tip is to stay positive and give yourself grace. The new year will bring challenges, successes, and even failures. The only way forward is to find the silver lining and keep pushing ahead.
Wishing you health, happiness, and success achieving all your goals in 2023!
